This week in “WeeklyckZ” I decided to show you a four arpeggio sequence, based on Gm, Gm#7, Gm7, and Gm6 chords. Played slow, it may sound a bit weird to you, but in the original tempo it’s pretty useful, if you want to spice up your solos.

Jason Becker, Perpetual Burn and my first appearance on GuitarPlayer Magazine

Alexandra Zerner

Recently I was told by a guy at the Jackson Guitars Forum, that he read about me in the October edition of Guitar Player Magazine and I thought it was some joke… until I found, that actually I was mentioned there for real, and what was even more surprising and breathtaking was, that I was mentioned by Jason Becker (!) about my cover (actually a practicing video, that I uploaded to my facebook page) of his great track “Perpetual Burn”, and my name appeared right after Jeff Loomis (!)… I must admit, that I really stopped breathing for few seconds because my jaw was somewhere on the floor.

I’ve never dreamed of such acknowledgement so early in my musical career… Thank you very much, Mr Becker! 🙂

Well, here’s the article:

This week I decided to show you a bit more advanced arpeggio lick, inspired by Jason Becker’s style of playing diminished arpeggios. This one is a mixture of three different arpeggios – Aâ™dim, Fm7 and G7, which combined construct a G7â™9â™13 chord – it has a dominant function and a bit of gypsy jazz flavour.

This week I decided to show you a tapping arpeggio inspired by Tony MacAlpine. There is a little tricky moment at the end, where you have to bend the string with your right hand, while you tap.

This week I decided to present you an extended range lick – an 8-string descending arpeggio, played over an Am6 chord. This time, I thought, that it may be useful for you, if there is a strings pad below the lick, so you can get a better idea of how it will sound over the chord.

This week I made for you a video tutorial for a descending picking lick with some interesting flavour – it is in Hungarian minor scale, aka Double harmonic minor scale. The pattern of the phrases is often used in the neoclassical shred – you will see it clearly enough in the slow tempo part of the video.

Alexandra Zerner

This week in “WeeklyckZ”, I decided to show you another exotic lick, which is a Gm6/9(7#) arpeggio. I know, that the chord name sounds frustrating, but it is not that hard as it seems. The arpeggio is inspired by Django Reinhardt and it is basically a minor arpeggio with added major 6th (which gives the subdominant Django’s flavour), an added major 7th, which makes the chord even more unstable, and a major 9th, which is actually the 2nd note of the scale (melodic minor) – just for fun 🙂

This week I am presenting you one more extended range lick, and more specifically, a 7-string one. But this time it’s even more interesting, because it is also a hybrid picking lick, with string skipping. The lick is in Harmonic minor scale in F#m.

Another two finger tapping lick, but this time the challenge is more serious, because the lick is based on string skipping. It is in Dorian mode, in the key of Em.
